On Saturday, July 20, St. Peter Lutheran Church in Bowie marked a significant milestone in its journey of faith and stewardship with a vibrant celebration. The congregation gathered for a note burning ceremony and fish fry to commemorate the full repayment of their Texas District CEF loan—a momentous achievement that highlighted both their financial dedication and their commitment to mission support.
Pastor Mark De Young reflected on the profound meaning of this accomplishment. “All credit is due to the congregation and to Pastor Knobloch,” he said, acknowledging the efforts that made this day possible. “Their focus on paying off the loan without cutting support for missions is to be commended. When I was placed here in 2022, I received a congregation that was close to paying off their obligation. What a blessing. Praise God, from Whom All Blessings Flow!”
Pastor Larry Knobloch, former pastor at St. Peter, describes why the congregation needed he loan and how God provided:
“The congregation had outgrown the old sanctuary and education building. They had hoped to be able to finance their new construction themselves, however with the downturn in the economy in 2008, it seemed that they would not be able to reach their financial goal. With the support of a loan from Texas CEF the saints of St Peter in Bowie were able to step out in faith on building a new worship facility. By the grace of God, the congregation was able to pay off their note early without decreasing their mission contributions to the Texas District nor to their local mission projects. God continues to bless His children and grow His kingdom!”
Texas District CEF’s Executive Director, Becca Jones, joined the members for the celebration and worship. What a wonderful opportunity to celebrate not only the burning of the note, but the partnership that Texas District CEF and St. Peter Lutheran Church in Bowie have.
