Chipping Away

St. John Lutheran in Athens has been around since the early 1980’s. As with all churches and our lives, things change. We get older. We make mistakes. We do our best to mend what we can, but sometimes things just flat fall apart. This facility is a living example of that. Pastor Seth Davidson continues with this wonderful message:

“We are in the middle of another building project. By the grace of God and the help of Texas CEF, we have an opportunity for a desperately needed remodel. Over the process of the last two and half years the Lord has led us to conversations, meetings, and strategic planning. Piece by piece throughout this project we are chipping away at moldy ceilings, a leaky roof, peeling back stubborn glued floors, and knocking down walls

This building project is much more than just a remodel. As we are chipping away, peeling back, and knocking down parts of our building, the same is happening with our hearts. We know the heart of our church reflects our love of the Lord (Ps. 26:8).

It is not always easy to let go of “what we have always done,” in order to live new lives in Christ, much less His mission today. We are taking a step forward in faith, knowing the Lord is growing us together throughout the process. We are excited, yet nervous. It is scary to step forward in faith and the Lord continues to challenge us, teach us, and pull us in new ways. Our church reflects our lives. We honor the past, but we live in the present, and look forward to what is to come.  Our prayer is that we never stop growing and chipping away at our sinful selves as we imitate Christ in our daily walk. “
